In her new book, On My Own, NPR radio host Diane Rehm speaks about the death of her husband, who, nine years after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, made the difficult choice to end his deteriorating condition by refusing to eat, drink, or accept medication. This experience transformed Ms. Rehm into an advocate for increased discussion about end-of-life care and the right to die on one’s own terms.
