Kathryn Tobias is a retired senior writer and editor for the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Born of American parents working with refugees in Europe after World War II, Kathryn has a lifelong interest in and passion for relief work as part of living out one’s faith. After witnessing the current efforts to assist refugees while traveling with the choir of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Germany in 2015, she and other members of Reformation were moved to seek out a way to provide direct support to refugees in the metropolitan Washington area. Six other Capitol Hill congregations with similar motivations then joined together to form Good Neighbors Capitol Hill to work–through Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSS/NCA)–with the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), one of the national organizations empowered to assist refugees in the United States.
