Tale of the Tongs documents the story of Catholic University architecture professor Travis Price and his students building an architectural memorial on the island of Inishturk, Ireland over nine days in 2013. The film interweaves the process of construction with profiles of people who live on the island, their culture and landscape. A discussion with the film directors, Judy and Stanley Hallet follows the screening. Filmmaker Judith Hallet’s subjects have included the tribes of Indonesia’s Irian Jaya rainforest, Argentina gauchos, Yellowstone’s wild buffalo—and profiles of Jane Goodall and Pope John Paul II. She received DC’s Mayor’s Arts Award for Excellence in an Artistic Discipline. Stanley Hallet, Catholic University’s Professor Emeritus of Architecture, explores the historic and contemporary relationships between culture, urban design, landscape and architecture. Recognized as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects for his contributions to architecture and architectural education, he has received twelve AIA design awards.
