Recognized as the nation’s most prominent Jewish theater, Theater J boasts a glittering record of premieres and revivals dating from 1990. Its new artistic director Adam Immerwahr, hailed as “an extraordinary talent in the American theater,” and Shirley Serotsky, director of the play “The How and The Why,” will have a conversation about the play, at Theater J until March 12.
The suspenseful yet funny play has been called “a ticking time bomb.” It features two combustible female characters, one a prominent evolutionary biologist, the other a maverick grad student, battling each other over theories that might change the way we regard sex itself. Written by Sarah Treem, author of TV shows including the Netflix hit series “House of Cards,” the play depicts a struggle of wills between the two, as treacherous emotion collides with theories of evolution — on the eve of a prestigious conference — and a battle for scientific truth that becomes a test of betrayal and of the survival of the fittest itself
