Terry McAuliffe, former governor of Virginia and former chair of the DNC, will address Democratic prospects for this year’s midterm elections, as well as the elections in 2020. In 2018, McAuliffe will barnstorm the country to help Democrats win elections from the state house to the House of Representatives. In his new role as state engagement chair of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, McAuliffe also is working to ensure that Democrats elect more governors so they can gain back control of drawing state legislative maps. The NDRC is the group formed with former president Barack Obama, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, and former attorney general Eric Holder.
McAuliffe, who served as the 72th Governor of Virginia from 2014-2018, left office having turned purple Virginia blue in 2016 for Hillary Clinton, nearly flipped control of the Republican House of Delegates over to Democrats in 2017, and helped elect a Democratic successor, VA’s newest governor, Ralph Northam, as well as the Lt. Governor and Attorney General. In addition to serving as chair of the DNC, McAuliffe served as Chairman of Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign and chair of the National Governors Association.
