Eileen McNamara comes to the club to talk about her new biography of the founder of Special Olympics, “Eunice: The Kennedy Who Changed the World.” Ms. McNamara is director of the journalism program at Brandeis University and a former columnist with the Boston Globe where she won a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary and was among the first to raise the alarm about clergy sexual abuse. She worked for the Globe for nearly 30 years, covering everything from the night police beat to the U.S. Congress.
In addition to the Pulitzer, Ms. McNamara has received awards from several other organizations, including the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation. In 2007, she was named a winner of the Yankee Quill Award, the highest individual honor given by the Academy of New England Journalists. Special guest Dr. Timothy Shriver, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Special Olympics International and son of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, will introduce Ms. McNamara.
