Democratic nominee for DC Attorney General, Brian Schwalb

Brian Schwalb, Democratic nominee for DC Attorney General, will join us for an in-depth look at the roles and responsibilities of the position as well as its priorities including juvenile justice, government accountability, affordable housing, and environmental protection.

Brian was born at Washington Hospital Center in 1967 and has lived and worked as an attorney in DC for nearly 30 years. After graduating from Duke University and Harvard Law School, Brian served as a law clerk for U.S District Judge John R. Hargrove and completed a two-year clerkship as a trial lawyer in the Tax Division in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Honor Program. Since then, Brian has represented clients – individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and families – in a multitude of high stakes matters. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and is strongly invested in providing legal and advisory services to organizations like the Council for Court Excellence, dedicated to enhancing the justice system; the Abramson Scholarship Fund, which gives high school graduates in the District the opportunity to attend college and the tools to succeed; and Us Helping Us, People Into Living, a non-profit committed to reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS. Brian is an experienced law firm leader, having served as Venable’s firm-wide Vice Chairman and currently as the Partner-in-Charge of Venable’s DC office. He and his wife, Mickie, have raised their three daughters – Jessica, Allison, and Sydney – in their home on Kanawha Street. He is a member of the Adas Israel Synagogue in Cleveland Park, where he serves as a trustee.
