POSTPONED – DC’s Black Maternal Health Crisis
September 22, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Thursday, September 22
DUE TO SPEAKER ILLNESS, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED.
Zoom Event from 1:00–2:00 pm
Despite accounting for only half of all births in DC, Black women make up 90% of perinatal deaths. Specifically, residents of (predominantly Black) Wards 7 and 8 comprise 70% of pregnancy-related deaths, while residents of (predominantly White) Wards 2 and 3 reported no pregnancy-related deaths. Tragically, Wards 7 and 8 do not have the benefit of an OB/GYN unit at their nearest hospital. To help us better understand this appalling disparity in maternal health care in DC, we will be joined by Dr. Jamila Perritt, President and CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health, and former Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC.
