Play Reading: Formation of the UN by Mary Lee McIntyre
July 19 @ 11:00 am
Wednesday, July 19, 11 am
Long-time Club member and amateur playwright and historian, Mary Lee McIntyre (left), has written a play about the founding of the United Nations. It starts in 1945 and includes Mrs. Roosevelt and the cast of characters who thought they could “park” Eleanor in an out-of-way committee. Negotiations with the Soviet Union are an important part of the action. These are all roles that will be read from the script so there is no memorizing involved! Mary Lee is recruiting about 15 participants who can commit to at least several rehearsals before it is performed for a Club audience in the Fall. Those women who are reading a male role are free to dress in suit, neck tie and fedora at performance time! Our first read-through will take place on Wednesday, July 19 at 11:00 am. Stay for a delicious Club lunch if time allows. Contact Patricia Fitzgerald, pfitzgerald@democraticwoman.org, to register for a play-reading role. Please indicate if you wish to reserve a Club lunch.
WNDC encourages and expects all visitors to the Club to be up-to-date on vaccinations and boosters for COVID-19, and to exercise responsible judgment in decisions regarding masking, distancing, and remote participation. The WNDC will follow recommendations from the CDC and District of Columbia and will update these requirements as needed.
