EVENT TYPE: Speaker Reception
The Green New Deal is generating much media attention as dire reports emerge on our human-generated environmental crisis. But what is the Green New Deal? What does it offer, and why do some oppose it? In the first of several programs, the WNDC presents speakers who will begin to answer some of these questions.
Denise Robbins is Communications Director at the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, the first grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting global warming in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. She was a key leader in the two-year campaign that resulted in the enactment of the D.C. Clean Energy Act, making the city a national example of strong climate action on the local level. Jared Huffman, a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, will talk about legislative initiatives on the climate crisis under consideration plus the work of the Select Committee. Ksusha Karnoup started off as a volunteer and then transitioned to working for the Sunrise Movement with a focus on planning the Green New Deal Tour. Dani Hupper will also speak about the Sunrise Movement, followed by a briefing on current legislative initiatives in Congress.
