Message from the President: Join the Legal Advisory Committee!

Dear WNDC Members,
The Board of Directors is considering forming a Legal Advisory Committee of attorneys and other members with experience in legal research.
We are seeking volunteers who can provide guidance on a wide range of issues that may arise, with a particular emphasis on IRS regulations. This expertise is crucial not only in general tax matters but also in complying with the specific requirements for social clubs with 501(c)(7) tax-exempt status. Most questions that arise relate to what is permissible in the areas of fundraising, non-member participation, and financial management of income from various sources. Your understanding of the nuances and complexities involved in this area will be invaluable in providing comprehensive legal guidance to ensure compliance.
The committee also may provide guidance on routine business matters, such as reviewing updates to Bylaws and Standing Rules, assessing procedural questions, evaluating new proposals for implementation, and reviewing documents for legal sufficiency.
The Legal Advisory committee will be a Special Committee as defined by the WNDC Bylaws. It will generally operate as a virtual ad hoc committee, only meeting in person occasionally as necessary. Rosalyn Coates, who served as WNDC president from 2023 to 2025, has volunteered to chair this committee.
