International Women’s Day is marked every year as a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The first observance was held on February 28, 1909 in New York City. Thousands of women marched to demand voting rights, better pay, and shorter working hours.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) is #BalanceforBetter, a call for action to build a gender-balanced world. The panel members at the luncheon will take WNDC’s motto “From the Right to Vote to the Power to Lead” and will explore the meaning of that motto in her own country.
