On August 7, 2018, there will be a special election in Ohio’s 12th District. This is a great opportunity for a Democratic pickup in a district long represented by a Republican and that Trump won by 11 points in2 016. In this district, now considered a toss-up by forecasters, Danny O’Connor, Franklin County Recorder, is running neck and neck with Republican State Senator Troy Balderson for this open seat. Let’s help Danny get across the finish line and flip this district!
Danny, an attorney, was born and raised in rural Shelby County, Ohio. Since being elected Recorder, he’s instituted the first-ever paid family leave program for employees in the Recorder’s office. His other policy priorities include healthcare and choice. In contrast, Republican Balderson has consistently voted against choice, is endorsed by Ohio Right to Life, and is pro-gun and endorsed by the NRA.
However, this election season is no longer only about policy differences between Democrats and Republicans. With every vote in Congress needed to stem the tide of Trumpism, every 2018 election could be our last chance to save our democracy. Now is the time for all of us to do what we can to elect Democrats – including helping Danny energize voters in the 12th. This is a great chance. Although Danny’s campaign cash on hand is almost 40% below Balderson’s, Danny is already picking up momentum. We encourage you to learn more about Danny at his campaign website.
