WNDC celebrates DC Mayor Muriel Bowser for her outstanding service and commitment to the empowerment of women. Join us as we gather at our historic clubhouse to honor her many achievements and successes. Councilman Jack Evans will join her on stage in conversation about the city they run.
Since her election as the District’s second woman mayor, Mayor Bowser has consistently appointed women leaders to serve in her cabinet. She considers women vitally important in her decision making process. She has helped advance opportunities for women in DC and beyond. She launched a new program called ‘Reign’ which teaches confidence and leadership skills to young women of color in D.C. Public Schools. She’s provided more than half a million dollars in support for organizations that work with at risk teens and started a website to help locate missing black and brown young girls. She has fought for gender equality through the promotion of workplace fairness and protections for women.
At the Women’s March in January, Washington’s “chick mayor” showed up wearing a pink hat and told millions of women watching the event around the world that the Trump Administration is “dangerous for women.” In an era when women are leading the way in progressive action, the Mayor stands out as a stellar role model.
