In his final White House address in 1961, President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned of the “disastrous rise” of the military-industrial complex. Since then, the complex has morphed into an unstoppable war machine. And today the man in charge of that machine is the unpredictable and disruptive President Donald Trump.
For the latest update on Trump as commander-in-chief of our multi-billion dollar defense spending, troop withdrawal plans for Syria and Afghanistan, abandonment of our nuclear treaty with Russia and the possibility of a new Cold War, you will want to hear this presentation by Molly McCartney, a former Washington Post reporter and co-author with James McCartney of America’s War Machine: Vested Interests, Endless Conflicts.
Before he died in 2011, award-winning national security reporter James McCartney drafted a compelling history showing that the problem Eisenhower described was more far reaching than anything the former president could have imagined. Journalist Molly McCartney was appointed a Woodrow Wilson Public Scholar to do the research, interviews and writing needed to complete her husband’s book, which was published in 2015 and which is more relevant today than ever.
The book will be available for purchase and signing.
