WNDC is incredibly fortunate to welcome Dr. Makiko Hirata—an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, researcher, writer, and instructor at Stanford—for a special performance featuring Bach, Chopin, Gershwin, and others. Hirata has graced some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and Ozawa Hall. Seamlessly blending artistic excellence with advocacy, she has positioned herself as a pivotal figure in demonstrating music’s profound impact on societal well-being. Recognizing the turbulence in our lives, Hirata’s mission is deeply rooted in the healing power of music. As she describes on her website, she is "passionately committed to harnessing the power of music for healing and unity." A U.S.-Japan Leadership Program Fellow and a founding member of TEMPO: Music for Climate Action, Hirata was also honored as Coeuraj’s 2022 Global Courage Fellow for her instrumental role in fostering trust and unity in times of division. Join us for an uplifting and inspiring afternoon. Bring your friends—perhaps even a federal worker in need of a moment of respite—and experience not only Hirata’s breathtaking performance but also her deep commitment to music as a tool for emotional and societal healing. Her generosity and passion will leave a lasting impression. EVENT DETAILS: Noon cash bar; 12:30 pm lunch; 2:00 pm concert followed by CD sales and signing Members: $30, non-members $35, plus tax Concert only: $10 |
