What does it take to lead, legislate, and deliver results when Democrats hold the majority? Join us for a conversation with Virginia House Majority Leader Charniele Herring, who will share her firsthand perspective on leadership in the Virginia House of Delegates and what Democrats can accomplish when they have the power to govern.
Herring was elected to the Virginia General Assembly in 2009 and has served as Minority Whip, Caucus Chair, and Majority Leader. In 2020, she became the first woman and first African American to serve as Majority Leader of the House of Delegates. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Rules Committee and on the Committees of Appropriations, Health and Human Services, and Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources.
Leader Herring will discuss her experience navigating the challenges of state leadership, advancing progressive priorities, and protecting fundamental rights. She will also reflect on the lessons she has learned throughout her career in public service and the importance of turning Democratic majorities into meaningful action.
EVENT DETAILS:
A Northern Virginia native, Herring’s commitment to public service was shaped in part by experiencing homelessness as a teenager. She went on to earn a degree in Economics from George Mason University and a law degree from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law. Her legislative accomplishments include the Reproductive Health Protection Act, the Clean Energy and Community Flood Preparedness Act, the Safeguarding American Veterans Act, and the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Prevention Fund.
