EVENT TYPE: Evening panel presentations and discussion
The Trump Administration has been a declared opponent of climate science, environmental regulations, and clean and renewable power sources. The new EPA Administrator is a long-time enemy of the organization he now heads; the President’s proposed budget slashes funds for the EPA and climate research by NOAA and the Energy Department. The Interior Department is working to open up our National Parks to coal and oil leasing. Pipelines carrying the dirtiest form of oil from Canada’s tar sands are being pushed for quick approval.
How can we defend our planet from the Trump Administration climate science deniers and the new government programs to promote the fossil fuel industry?
In the week before the People’s March for Climate, Jobs, and Justice, a panel of environmental advocates will help us plan for resisting these earth-destroying moves by Trump and his allies. Ann Mesnikoff, former Democratic Council with the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and member of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Corps will present information about climate change and U.S. policy. Camilla Thorndike of the Chesapeake Climate Action Campaign (CCAC) will talk about carbon caps and carbon trading as a strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and Dr. Thomas Gross will share his expertise as an oceanographer recently retired from NOAA.
PRICE: $20 for members/ $25 Non-Members including hors d’oeuvres. $10 Lecture only. Cash bar.
