Shaunna Thomas, co-founder and co-executive director of UltraViolet, will share her insights into how women are leading the resistance against this administration and the success they are having. UltraViolet is an organization established five years ago to “fight sexism and create a more inclusive world that accurately represents all women, from politics and government to media and pop culture.”
2018 is shaping up to be a big year for women–from the Women’s March to the #MeToo movement, social media is empowering us to tell our stories and organize in new and powerful ways. And the media and our elected officials are finally paying attention. Learn how Ultra Violet is using this momentum to continue working together and building on these successes through effective organizing on social media.
Personal stories shape the media narrative, influence legislatures, and lift up our fellow community members. Right NOW UltraViolet members are working hard to stop Trump’s “gag rule,” which would make it illegal for many health care providers to give accurate information about abortion; they are fighting alongside Target employees to demand adequate parental leave; and they are staying engaged in the #MeToo movement to demand justice for survivors of sexual harassment and assault. In all these campaigns, stories can make the difference.
