In a post-Dobbs America with a Republican trifecta at the federal level, what are the specifics of the "pro-life" agenda and where are women's rights most threatened? Wendy Davis, fierce advocate for reproductive rights and current leader of Planned Parenthood Texas's political advocacy arm, brings her legal knowledge and her perspective from the "front lines" of the fight. She will lay out what to watch for at the local, state, and national level and advise us on how to fight to preserve these vital freedoms. EVENT DETAILS:
Wendy Davis was once a teen mom living in poverty who went on to graduate from Harvard Law School. After serving on the city council in Fort Worth, Texas, for 9 years, she rose to prominence as a state senator when she stood for 13 hours in her pink sneakers, filibustering a law that threatened to close almost all abortion clinics in Texas. In 2014, Davis ran to become Texas’ first Democratic governor in decades. She later founded two nonprofits: Deeds Not Words to train young women in civic engagement and advocacy, and Defend The Frontline, a fund to protect and restore our rights in a post-Roe world. Currently, Davis serves as senior advisor to Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, the political and advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood in Texas. |
