What if the key to navigating today’s challenges lies in the wisdom of the past? Join WNDC and Deborah L. Hughes, president and CEO of the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, for a powerful and thought-provoking program on the life and legacy of the courageous women who fought tirelessly for human rights and voting rights in a nation built on the promise of democracy. At a time when division and discouragement can feel overwhelming, the stories of Susan B. Anthony and her fellow suffragists remind us that change is possible. Together, we’ll explore how their struggles and victories can guide, inspire, and empower us today. Let’s learn from the past to strengthen our present and shape a better future. EVENT DETAILS:
Hughes has led the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House in Rochester, NY, since 2007. Under her leadership, the museum completed a major restoration, secured its Absolute Charter, and significantly increased attendance while staying true to its mission. She has launched award-winning programs like "VoteTilla" and represented the museum nationally in events such as the 2020 Rose Parade. A respected voice on women’s rights and history, Hughes has been featured in major outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the "She Votes" podcast. Her honors include the Women’s History Award from the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, the “W” Award, and the Distinguished Alumna of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School Award. An ordained minister, Hughes has served in urban churches and held national leadership roles within her denomination. Following our conversation with Deborah L. Hughes on the legacy of Susan B. Anthony and the ongoing fight for voting rights, we invite you to stay for a Virginia Governor’s Debate Watch Party. As we reflect on the power of civic engagement and the sacrifices made by past generations, we’ll gather to witness democracy in action and discuss what’s at stake in the upcoming election. Let’s honor the past by showing up for the present.
*Please note: Guests, with the exception of members’ spouses and domestic partners, may attend a maximum of three paid events from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. After the third event, they must join the Club to continue attending events.* |
