Join us on Friday, October 17, for a screening of "Hillbilly," a powerful and thought-provoking documentary that reclaims and redefines Appalachian identity. Set against the backdrop of the 2016 U.S. elections, this film explores the intersection of culture, politics, and personal narrative in the American South that still reverberates in today's political climate.

"Hillbilly" examines how family ties, economic pressures, and ideology shape the way people in Appalachia see themselves and how they are seen by others. While the term "hillbilly" has often carried a negative connotation, the film highlights a movement to reclaim this label and challenge prevailing stereotypes.

Event Details:

  • 6 p.m. start time for the film (run time: 1 hour 27 minutes)
  • $20 for WNDC members and $25 for non-members for snacks, including popcorn.
