Willem De Looper Exhibition The WNDC Arts and Museum Affairs Committee is proud to host a reception on Thursday, June 18, to celebrate a new exhibition of small works by the late Willem De Looper: “A Brush for Community.” Join us from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to honor this exhibition and generous art donation through a partnership of the De Looper Foundation and the Art Connection in the Capital Region. De Looper was a well-known Washington, DC, artist and an important contributor to the color field painting movement. Over a 40-year career, his paintings evolved from lyrical abstraction in the 1960s to more geometrically structured work in the 1990s. De Looper’s work has been exhibited and collected by many established museums such as The National Gallery of Art, The Phillips Collection, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. The Art Connection in the Capital Region is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding public access to original visual art in underserved communities. Working throughout Washington, DC, and Baltimore, ACCR partners with community-based nonprofits to place artwork in their public spaces, helping to create inspiring and nurturing environments for clients, staff, and the broader community. ACCR’s mission is made possible through the generosity of artists and donors who contribute original artwork for permanent placement.
The works in this exhibition will not be for sale but will be donated to nonprofit organizations. At the reception, meet members of these institutions’ boards of directors. The Art and Museum Affairs Committee thanks the de Looper Foundation for their generous donation.
For non-member event reservations: please email pfitzgerald@democraticwoman.org or telephone 202-232-7363 Ext. 402 (voicemails will also be accepted).
Please note: By attending a WNDC event, participants agree to being recorded and/or photographed, and the resulting assets may be used for promotional purposes. Should you wish not to be recorded or photographed, please notify a member of the WNDC staff on site. |
