The bad news is that the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention established by President Biden is gone. Closed by the Trump administration. No surprise. But the good news is that Gun Violence Prevention centers are being established in over 15 cities across the country, with more planned.
The closing of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention has prompted states and cities to increase their efforts by creating local offices. These offices address specific issues through legislation and coalitions that develop effective strategies to combat gun violence.
Reports indicate that crime and gun violence have decreased. However, the numbers remain concerning, and fatalities still occur nationwide. Since January 2025, Washington, DC has seen several shootings, but the data has not yet been fully reported. Nationwide, mass shootings have seen 40 people killed and 112 people wounded in 31 shootings around the country.
So, what can we do as individuals? There are numerous organizations that have been working to eliminate this public health crisis which is also the number one killer of children. Work with the WNDC Public Policy and Political Action Committee (PPC) sub-committee for Gun Violence Prevention. Look at what is being done here in DC and around the country.
