WNDC Get Out the Vote and Policy and Political Action Committee Activities 

  • April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAM). Each year during SAAM, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center works to raise awareness about sexual assault and how to prevent sexual assault. See the statisticsGet involved to make a difference.

  • Thank-You Friday Lunch: Friday, April 25, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Whittemore House. Join your community at the club to thank lawmakers, attorneys general, community leaders and other persistent leaders for fighting for our values during this challenging time.   • Sister District's State Bridges Program: Saturday, April 26, 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Join WNDC and the Sister District DC Metro Area in supporting the New Virginia Majority Education Fund (NVM EF), a Sister District State Bridges partner this year! We’ll meet at the bottom of the hill in the grassy area near the southeast corner of the Frederick Douglass Bridge and then take a short walk across the bridge (rain or shine). We will end our walk at All Purpose Pizza, where we will celebrate with pizza and a cash bar. Register for the event? or make a donation to support our State Bridges partner!

  • Stop the Destruction of Democracy! No Kings – Then or Now! April 16, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. special guest speakers Historian H. Cox Richardson, AG A. Campbell and US Rep. J. Raskin will answer the question: What CAN and MUST we do to win this fight? Register for No Kings here.

DC Area Events/Rallies/Protests

  • DC Emancipation Day Speak Out: On Wednesday, April 16, everyone is invited to a community event on protecting home rule, saving federal jobs and services, and investing in DC communities. Panel discussion, conversation, and food?start at 5:30 p.m.?at Metropolitan AME Church,?1518 M Street NW. Register here. 

  • Defend the Kennedy Center: Who could have guessed that the Kennedy Center would be high on Trump’s revenge list? His recent moves – naming himself chairman of the board and firing the executive director and social impact team – have triggered pushback from Kennedy Center patrons. Sign up here to stay on top of the movement to defend the Center and stop politicization of the arts.
  • Vigil on Capitol Hill: On?Wednesday, April 16, at noon, call on Congress to show courage in stopping executive overreach. The nonpartisan vigil is organized by the Washington Interfaith Staff Community and 29 co-sponsors. Meet at the US Capitol, East Front, Senate side (Constitution Ave. NE and First St. NE). See info here

Advocacy/Lobbying Members of Congress

Congress has gone home for April recess.  If you live in a state, seize this opportunity to speak out at public events in your state or district to remind your elected representatives they work for you. DC residents can ask friends and family in their states to take action.  

  • Attend a Town Hall or Request an in-office meeting! Here’s your April Recess Toolkit from Indivisible. The House of Representatives is in recess from April 11th to April 27th. The Senate is in recess from April 12th to April 27th.  Insist on holding them accountable for their actions. Attend a town hall or request an in-office meeting. Go to 5Calls.org for your representative’s schedule. DC residents can ask friends and family in their states to take action.

TELL REPRESENTATIVES to VOTE NO on THE FOLLOWING BILLS: 

  • CALL YOUR SENATORS! STOP Voter Suppression! 
    On 4/10/25, H.R.22 passed the House, with a vote of 220-208.  The Senate will vote on S.128 when it returns from recess. Four Democratic Representatives voted for this! Now imagine if you needed a birth certificate, a "real" ID, or a passport to purchase a gun. As many as 69 million women lack access to valid birth certificates. Tell Your Senators to Vote NO on the Silencing Americans Act.  
  • CALL YOUR SENATORS! STOP Attacks on the Courts!
    H.R.1526 passed the House?on 4/9/2025.  The Senate will vote on this when it returns from recess.  The No Rogue Rulings Act (H.R. 1526) would bar district court judges from issuing nationwide injunctions, making the district courts powerless to stop Trump. Learn more here
  • CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES! Do you want Higher Bank Fees?
    The House expects to vote on this resolution after they return from recess. The House (H.J. Res. 59) and Senate (S.J. Res. 18) joint resolution disapproving of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) rule issued in December, 2024, which limits bank overdraft fees to $5 (down from the current average of $35). Now, the GOP-sponsored joint resolution seeks to remove all caps on overdraft fees. Learn more here

  • PROTECT Public Health! Oppose HHS Workforce and Program Cuts! These cuts endanger everything from infectious disease control, such as measles, and cancer research to essential health programs. Click here 5calls.org - HHSThese are the states hit hardest by the measles outbreak so far.
